Haha xD I'm not even fully satisfied with my shading things ! I'm still practicing a lot of that but i'm glad you like it !
The thing that helped me the most is the surface scattering ! Once you get a glimp of that in your colors, everything becomes way better o(≧▽≦)o

If I can shade like that I would've been fully satisfied :/
But it's not wrong to keep practicing, so work hard! >w< b
I need to keep improving too~

Surface scattering? What the heck is that? xD Is the a shading technique?
I'd like to learn it!

Haha xD Basically it's adding a lil amount of more saturated color on the part you're working on when coloring. You put that saturated color as a soft gradient to make a link between your shadow part and the "base tone" and it somehow gives more life to your piece =)

Let's take the skin for exemple, the surface scattering makes the color of the blood visible throught the skin, that's why ppl usually add some satured red on the skin. It looks way better cause everythings get less dull !

It works for any kind of material and color as long as you stick to the base tone with more saturation =)

You might be able to find some tutorial that shows better than my explanations just typing "surface scattering" on youtube cause actually i never had the chance to study drawing xD Since i'm self taught i feel like i'm not suited for explanations and i might get lots of things wrong >< I can only give some guidelines that helped me on my way there =)

I hope it helps a bit at least !

It's really amazing when you can make such beautiful semi realistic arts even you're self-taught!
I always need tutorials and references for me to improve~
